During our stay on the south island of New Zealand, we made way for Abel Tasman national park. Arriving at Tapu bay during the afternoon, it wasn’t looking great for a big view landscape photo. As we walked along the shore the tide line debris caught my eye as it was made up of little cockle shells. After finding the ideal little cluster of cockles to pose for my camera we spent the rest of the day lounging around the beach waiting for the sun to dip into the horizon. Photographing these cockles with direct sunlight blast over them would have created a very different image with deep black shadows and strong colours rather than the soft muted tones I was after.
