Nusa Lembongan is an island located southeast of Bali, Indonesia. Only 5 square miles in size, it’s the perfect sized island, not too big or too small. It has to be said, defiantly my favourite place in the world. It’s been 8 days now and I’m still trying to find a morning/evening to steal a scene from the seaweed farms of Mt Agung on the northern tip. I know the volcanoes over the Badung strait will show themselves sooner or later, but for now I have to make the most of this morning. I frame up a photograph of their boats lying in the cold blue light, a few moments later the seaweed farmer’s start making their way down to the boats, the whole family is walking down. Everyone gets involved in helping out here, although the kids probably get in the way more than not.

The little girl in the red was Nusa Lembongan to me. She came down every dawn and dusk to say hello and draw in the sand while I waited for the light. I would have loved to capture her portrait, but I didn’t want to scare her, she was too happy singing “pewtoe, pewtoe, pewtoe” I can only imagine it meant photo in English to her. As she flips water from the back of the boat, her mother walks into the frame to meet her husband and little red’s older sister, she looks although she might be getting taught the ropes, but for little red, it’s all fun and games for now.
